Welcome to the Kitchen.

Who is Mishra?

Sanjeev Mishra or Mishra-gi is the owner and head chef at Mishra’s kitchen. Sanjeev has been cooking in Melbourne since he arrived in the 1980s. In 2011 he achieved his dream of owning and operating his own restaurant when he opened the humble family restaurant in Yarraville Melbourne.

What is Mishra’s Kitchen?

Mishra’s kitchen is our restaurant in Yarraville Melbourne that is owned and operated by the Mishra family. A casual family restaurant where the kitchen is as open as our hearts. All people are welcome. Tables are seated around the small open kitchen where our chefs prepare your meal. We also offer takeaway and delivery if you prefer to enjoy at home.  If you need a lot of food, we also offer catering and bulk purchasing option for parties and events of any kind. We believe the most important ingredient is love; so we put a little dash on everything we do.

Hear it from Mishra

“ Mishra’s Kitchen began with just three staff – Geetanjali (my daughter), myself and a dishwasher. Now, eight and a half years later, the restaurant has grown to employ eight staff ”

“ My name is actually Sanjeev Mishra, We wanted to call it Sanjeev’s Kitchen, but somebody in Victoria had already registered the name. So we went with Mishra’s Kitchen instead (we thought it sounded better than Sanjeev’s Kitchen anyway) and most people just call me ‘Mishra’ now. In the Yarraville village most people know me as Mishra. Even neighbours call me Mishra. Sometimes I even forget my name is Sanjeev. I dont mind, I think Everything happens for a good reason. “

“ I’ve seen a lot of changes in Yarraville. Younger people and couples moving into the area. Some of my earliest customers still come in to eat, now with their kids that go to the primary school across the road. It’s a local, family-friendly restaurant. That’s the whole idea behind Mishra’s Kitchen, good food and happy families. All my staff love kids and are able to cater to all their needs. We are happy when parents and children come in and eat, and we don’t mind if kids drop rice on the floor or make a mess. When you come here you get treated like my family and we know families are messy sometimes. “

“ I have no plans to make Mishra’s Kitchen any bigger. I don’t want to lose the personal touch. I like the fact that we have an open kitchen so that when I am cooking I can talk to my customers. The personal touch is important. I don’t do anything without feeling. That’s my philosophy in life. “

“ When I cook, I put my love into it. When I do, I know it will taste nice. 99.99% of the time we don’t say ‘No’ to our customers. We will happily cater to all requests (as long as we have the ingredients). We always cater for all taste preference, all allergies, all diets, all ages and all people. “
